The Venators

The Venators are the officially Wytch-Finders and Deviant-Purgers of the Ministorum. The primary mission of these zealous militants is to purify the Spire of "Deviants" (mutants), Sons of Horus (heretics and chaos cultists) and to capture "Wytches" (psykers) so as to intern them within P-Section of the Prison. Deviants are often publically executed by fire or beheading (depending on social class) along with a sermon.

The Venators are often used by the Ministorum as a smoke screen for political skulduggery - scapegoats are easy to find, and once accused a person must and will be found guilty, else the efficiancy of the Law and the Pontifex's authority and foresight would be called into question. Only the Pontifex is above the power and authority of the Venators who can theoretically try and execute anyone in the Spire. Obviously, the Pontifex keeps a tight rein on this most fanatical sect of the Ministorum.

The Venators are a constant presence in the Spire and work closely with the Arbites. Their very presence causes fear amongst Hivers. They display the burnt bodies of the accused around the Hive with simple messages of obeyance to the Emperor. Some Venator groups are castrated (male and female) and all must observe strict rules of sobriety, purity and chastity. The Venators occasionally strike deep into the UnderHive to root out scavvies and deviants.

There are three main Venator families in this Spire: Aretz, Agrippa and Hammaurabi.

Venator General Xenocrates Agrippa

This is the man who heads the Venator hierarchy. His nameis known and feared throughout the Spire. When he was first initiated, he publically castrated himself. Since then he has held the spire in obeyance through fear, and never removed his mask. His tortures are said to be unendurable by any man or woman. Xenocrates considers torture to be a physical purification and the screams of repentance aural evidence of spiritual salvation.

Xenocrates is a driven man. He is by no means a sadist and does not enjoy his work. He sincerely believes in torture as a form of expiation. Beneath his grotesque ritual Venator mask he is guilty. He is deformed and twisted in a sickening paradoy of the human face. He is a deivant. Xenocrates believes that if he kills enough deivants himself however, he will be saved.
